With
its miles of wide sandy beaches, breathtaking rocky coastline and
spectacular green river valleys, it's easy to be taken away by
the sheer beauty of Oregon's South Coast. Lighthouses stand sentinel
at various harbors, lighting the way into the bays. Estuaries, created
when freshwater of the river mixes with the saltwater of the bay,
are home to a diverse group of animals and sea life. If you follow
the Umpqua River at Reedsport or the Coquille River at Bandon toward
the river valleys, you will find another group of treasures to which
the southern coast is host. Discover pristine forests, waterfalls,
and a milder climate. Imagine the variety of trees that surround
you at every turn, and the absolute calmness they create.
Because of our location,
Oregon's South Coast has a moderate climate, which keeps our heating and
cooling costs low. So whether you are interested in living in one
of our beautiful coastal towns of Reedsport, North Bend, Coos Bay,
Charleston, Bandon, and Lakeside or if you prefer the allure of
the inland towns of Coquille, Myrtle Point, or Powers, you are sure
to find your perfect weather.
And what better way
to enjoy the view of the ocean than playing a round or two of golf
at the world-class Bandon Dunes or Pacific Dunes. Ranked #3 behind
only Pebble Beach and Pinehurst, they are the most authentic links
courses you will find on this continent. Additional recreational
opportunities to explore are fishing, camping,
water sports, horseback riding and gaming, just to name a few.
If you are looking
for cultural activities, we have incredible live theater, concerts,
art galleries, museums and annual music and fun festivals. We have
an excellent countywide library system and there is an array
of historical buildings throughout the area.
Our public school systems
provide excellent educational opportunities. You will soon discover
the loyalty the community has to the local high school athletes.
Steve Prefontaine, premier track & field star, began his athletic
career at Marshfield High School in Coos Bay. For higher education,
Southwestern Oregon Community College offers a program of general
college courses, technical courses as well as the ability to custom
design a specific program to fit employers' needs.
Oregon's South Coast has
a skilled and available workforce. Our employees have a high work
ethic and are not afraid to 'get their hands dirty'.
We
have excellent medical facilities, with specialists in every field,
to provide the best medical care possible. There is one large regional
hospital with three satellite hospitals situated around the region
that well serve the needs of all the residents of South Coast.
Our crime rate is very
low. This is due to visible, well-developed law enforcement agencies,
as well as the community working together to keep this a safe and
friendly place to live and enjoy.
South Coast is interested
in maintaining a healthy economy. Because of this, we have made
it very easy for you to move your business here. From Enterprise
Zones to competitive land and building costs to financial assistance,
you will find that we are here to help you.
The high quality of life, the low cost
of doing business, a skilled workforce, and a moderate climate make
Oregon's South Coast the perfect place to expand or relocate your business.
