Live Culture Coast - Fall 'Sensory Celebration" Coming Our Way!
Live Culture Coast is a 10-day celebration of creative expression featuring over 60 creators, makers, and entrepreneurs of the Southern Oregon Coast. This series of events will take place along the Southern Oregon coast from Reedsport to Brookings from October 18-27, 2019.
Art and culture are an important part of this celebration. Not only is art an "expression of the human spirit, but arts and culture can ave positive impacts on the tourist experience and contribute to economic vitality. Visitors to the Southern Oregon Coast spent $58.3 million on arts, culture, and recreation in 2018, up from $51.1 million in 2008," according to a statewide tourism report released in March.
Live Culture Coast Announces Request for Burma Shave-Style Poems
Live Culture Coast is inviting Oregon writers and creatives to submit short poems which will be painted on road signs and posted along the Live Culture Coast route from Reedsport to Brookings.
Three poems will be selected for the road signs, and up to 10 others will be published on Live Culture Coast outlets (website, social media, event guides, etc.). The deadline for submission is Friday, August 2. Click here for poem submission guidelines.
Burma-Shave style poems are modeled after the famous advertising campaign by the Burma -Vita company back in 1926. Fun little rhyming poems were posted along highways such as U.S. Highway 54 near Lakeville, Minnesota creating a highly successful sales program. For more information on these poems see Wikipedia.
